Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins announced the launch of the Westchester Waterways Portal, a new online resource created by the Westchester County Department of Planning to provide residents, municipalities and community partners with easy access to information about the County’s watersheds, streams, flood zones, aquifers and water quality initiatives. The interactive portal serves as a centralized hub for the County’s watershed planning efforts and helps users better understand the natural resources that protect communities and support environmental sustainability.

The Westchester Waterways Portal features interactive maps, educational resources and updates on watershed plans and flood mitigation projects throughout the County. Residents can also anonymously report non-emergency flooding through an online survey, helping the County and local municipalities better understand flooding patterns and strengthen future planning efforts. The portal also supports the Department of Planning’s WAVE community science stream monitoring program and provides information about ongoing water quality initiatives across Westchester County.

Jenkins said: “Protecting our waterways begins with providing residents and local communities with the information they need to understand them better. The Westchester Waterways Portal makes it easier than ever to track the work being done to improve water quality and contribute to efforts that strengthen our communities’ resilience to flooding. This resource reflects our commitment to protecting the environment while giving residents another way to engage with the work happening across Westchester County.”

Westchester County Department of Planning Commissioner Blanca Lopez said: “Our waterways connect every community in Westchester County, making watershed planning and public education essential to protecting these shared natural resources. The Westchester Waterways Portal brings together information that was previously spread across multiple platforms into one easy-to-use resource. Whether someone wants to learn about their local watershed, explore flood mitigation projects or report non-emergency flooding, this portal provides valuable tools that support informed decision-making and community engagement.”

Westchester County Director of Energy Conservation and Sustainability Peter L. McCartt said: “Clean waterways are essential to healthy communities and thriving ecosystems. The Westchester Waterways Portal helps connect residents with the information and tools they need to better understand the relationship between water quality and climate resilience. With our focus in making these resources more accessible, we’re encouraging greater stewardship of our environment while supporting the County’s long-term sustainability goals.”
